Pauline Pulis – 2025 Hall of Fame Inductee

The Western Pigeon Federation is proud to announce Pauline Pulis as a 2025 inductee into the Western Pigeon Federation Hall of Fame, recognising more than four decades of dedication, leadership and outstanding service to the sport of pigeon racing.

A Lifelong Commitment to the WPF

Pauline began her racing journey in 1983 alongside her husband John, competing as John & Pauline Pulis with the Western Pigeon Federation and flying with the Deer Park Club. In 1999 the family partnership evolved into J&J Pulis when their son Joe embraced the sport with equal enthusiasm, helping establish the Pulis family as respected and consistent competitors within the Federation.

Here is a photo of Pauline & John Pulis in earlier times.

Pauline was deeply involved in the day-to-day management of their loft. She trained birds around the home, ensured they were conditioned with the correct feeding regimen each week, managed mid-week tosses, and perfected their trapping so the birds lost no precious seconds on race day. Her natural intuition for pigeon behaviour made her an invaluable partner in their racing success.

A Remarkable Eye for a Champion

Pauline possessed an extraordinary ability to identify form, health and race potential from simple weekly observations. She often picked their weekend candidates solely from loft behaviour, flight patterns, and subtle traits others might overlook. Her instinct was so strong that she selected the family’s very first Federation winner, a standout blue chequer pied hen that went on to win 1st Federation Launceston. Joe & John fondly referred to Pauline as the family’s true “pigeon whisperer”.

An Exceptional Ring Secretary

Pauline followed in the footsteps of the late Life Member, Margaret Tung, taking on the vital role of WPF Ring Secretary. She not only maintained the high standard set before her, but she also exceeded it.

Her professionalism, patience and warmth defined her service. Whether assisting seasoned members, new flyers or members of the public reporting stray pigeons, Pauline always displayed understanding and genuine care. She made non-fanciers feel welcome, guiding them through how to safely look after a lost pigeon using whatever they had in their pantry, rice, oats, wheat or maize, always emphasising the importance of water and compassion.

Pauline’s gentle and encouraging nature made her the Federation’s frontline presence. Members, visitors and the general public consistently admired her helpful approach and the pride she took in supporting the sport and its community.

A Pillar of Sportsmanship and Leadership

Throughout more than forty years of involvement, Pauline demonstrated the highest standards of sportsmanship, integrity and leadership.
She fulfilled several Hall of Fame requirements, including:

  • Significant and sustained contribution through long-standing service as WPF Ring Secretary for over a decade (13 Years).

  • Exceptional leadership, maintaining and surpassing the benchmark set before her.

  • Commitment to the principles of good sportsmanship, reflected in her spotless record and the respect she earned Federation-wide.

  • Continuous membership since 1983 and unwavering dedication to the WPF and its values.

Pauline’s humility shone through her entire journey. Even when fanciers thanked her for going the extra mile to help recover their birds, she simply saw it as doing her job. She needed no praise, yet fully deserved it.

A Lasting Legacy

Due to personal health challenges, Pauline was unable to continue her role in 2025, but her legacy remains firmly embedded within the Federation. Her contribution strengthened the WPF, supported countless flyers and assisted the public in understanding and appreciating our sport. The Pulis family’s joy in racing, shared by Pauline through decades of success, has made a meaningful and lasting impact.

The Western Pigeon Federation and its Board proudly acknowledge Pauline’s outstanding service and commitment. She embodies the values of the Hall of Fame, and we are honoured to induct her as a 2025 Hall of Fame Member.

Congratulations, Pauline.

Your dedication, leadership and compassion have enriched our community, and your contribution will be remembered for generations.

Yours in Sport,
