WPF Hall of Fame Policy

1. Establishment of the Hall of Fame

1.1 The Hall of Fame accords recognition of outstanding achievements by WPF members, individuals, and board members who have made a significant contribution to the WPF.

1.2 Inductees to the Hall of Fame should be appointed in accordance with the provisions of this policy.

2. Establishment of the Hall of Fame Committee

2.1 The WPF board shall appoint a Hall of Fame committee (the committee) in accordance with Clause 3.

2.2 The function of the committee is to:
– Examine nominees identified under the nomination procedure (Clause 5) and gather sufficient information to ensure a fair assessment of their suitability for Hall of Fame membership.
– Review the nominee information and request further details as necessary.
– Recommend appropriate inductees to the Hall of Fame to the WPF board.

3. Committee Membership

3.1 Membership of the Committee shall consist of:
– A chair chosen by the board for their ability to maintain process integrity.
– Two to five other members with knowledge, experience, and integrity.

4. Role of the Committee

4.1 The committee shall:
– Comply with all rules and regulations set by the board.
– Conduct voting by secret ballot.

5. Hall of Fame Criteria

5.1 Nomination Process 

Nominations can be received from two WPF clubs or directly from the WPF board. Nominations must be received on the prescribed online form. ( We will create an online form, please.)

5.2 Selection Criteria

The committee shall consider the following primary and secondary criteria in evaluating nominees for the Hall of Fame:

Primary Criteria 

In considering the award to the Hall of Fame, an individual being considered for nomination must meet at least one of the following primary criteria:

    1. Demonstrated significant and sustained high-quality service.
    2. Valued leadership and good role modeling, that reflects creditably upon the association.
    3. An individual has been a champion of the sport by winning the Aggregate Points on three or more occasions.

Secondary Criteria 

The individual must also meet at least three of the following five secondary criteria:

    1. Commitment to the principles of good sportsmanship.
    2. Ten years of voluntary service, which may be a combination of roles and functions.
    3. Continuous financial membership for at least ten years.
    4. Consistently ranking in the top thirty points 70% of the time over a ten-year period.
    5. Demonstrated the ability to develop a strain of pigeons that will win or be placed in races for other flyers.

6. Inductions

6.1 Inductions into the Hall of Fame shall occur biennially, with a maximum of four inductees per period. Inductees may be drawn from any period of WPF history.

7. Legends

7.1 A special category of inductees known as “Legends” will be used to honour those who have had the highest impact on the sport, with elevation to this category occurring every two years.

It is envisaged all criteria are achieved for this award status to be applied successfully.

8. Special Discretionary Powers

8.1 The committee may recommend exceeding the number of inductees due to special or unforeseen circumstances.

9. Assistance to the Committee

9.1 WPF shall provide resources to coordinate committee meetings and facilitate the induction process.

10. Policy Amendments

10.1 The Hall of Fame policy may be amended by the board at any time.
