The skies over Kaniva were buzzing with youthful energy as our junior pigeon fanciers took flight in Squeaker Squadron #3, held on 2nd August 2025. With 15 young flyers each racing up to five pigeons, this event was a thrilling showcase of dedication, care, and competitive spirit.
🏁 A Race Won in Seconds
This wasn’t just a race—it was a nail-biter! The top three juniors delivered an unforgettable performance, with their birds separated by mere seconds:
- 🥇 Joachim (The J Family Loft Junior)
Arrival: 15:02:37 – Velocity: 1275.41 m/min - 🥈 Natalie Mifsud
Arrival: 14:49:23 – Velocity: 1267.05 m/min
➤ Just 794 seconds (13 minutes and 14 seconds) behind Joachim! - 🥉 Wayne Vella
Arrival: 14:55:13 – Velocity: 1245.68 m/min
➤ Only 444 seconds (7 minutes and 24 seconds) behind Joachim
➤ And just 350 seconds (5 minutes and 50 seconds) behind Natalie!
These razor-thin margins show how every second counts in pigeon racing. A slight edge in training, timing, or wind conditions can make all the difference.
🌤️ Liberation Conditions
Birds were released at 10:30am into low cloud cover with blue skies above. A light southeast wind (2–4 km/h) at the race point gradually increased to 10–15 km/h near Ballarat. The temperature at liberation was a cool 9.2°C, perfect for a steady flight home.
