Race Report: A Swift and Exciting Finish!

The recent race turned out to be quicker than most anticipated, with the winners demonstrating remarkable endurance and navigation skills to stay on line despite the strong winds. The Frost family clinched first prize, one of the shortest fliers, finishing just 6 seconds ahead of their closest competitor, Mark Sagers. Not far behind, Cachia Howell & Cini, the longest flyer, crossed the finish line 20 seconds later. It was a thrilling race where any participant between could have emerged victorious.

Weather Report

Upon release, the birds faced north-easterly winds at 15-20 km/hr at ground level, with similar conditions expected throughout their journey. The temperature at the race point was a cool 8°C.

    • 1 junior flyer with 5 birds
    • 13 GCHC flyers with 254 birds
    • 17 Squeaker Squadron flyers with 85 pooled birds

A total of 82 flyers and  2256 birds were released at 10:30 AM. The birds quickly organised into three groups, with the first group clearing within 1 minute and the remaining two groups within 2 minutes.
